The history
The Schmidtburger Hof was a former estate and fief of the Counts of Schmidtburg. In addition to the local counties of Baden and Sponheim in the Middle Ages, the Schmidtburgs also claimed the 10th part of the harvest from their lands in Weiler. This is the origin of the names Zehntenstrasse, Zehntenscheune and the vineyard site "Weilerer Herrenzehntel", which are still used today.
Schmidtburg Castle, situated in the dreamy Hahnenbach valley, was first mentioned in 926. The stately ruins can still be visited today via the "Hahnenbachtaltour" dream loop.
The farm has been owned by the family since it was acquired by Pastor Wirth in 1796 and has been run as a mixed agricultural business for generations. Catering for guests began in 1958/59, when it was still a small tavern offering cold dishes and estate wines, which quickly became very popular. As a pioneer, Erika Lauf laid the foundations for tourism in the Nahe Valley in 1968 and set up three rooms with a washroom in the private main house. In 1982, the major construction phase of the 7th generation began with the expansion of the wine cellar, the construction of 15 guest rooms and a bar, which still forms the heart of the business today. But there was still no standstill in sight. In 2000, the barn, with its former stable and hayloft, was renovated. A large suite and two lovingly furnished double rooms found their place here. The "Lehensstuben" - 4 vacation apartments, with a very special charm in country house style, have completed the farm since 2013.
Since then, mother Christel and her three daughters - Melanie, Miriam and Elisa Marie - have proudly run a successful family business that attracts visitors from near and far to the beautiful Nahe valley at the foot of the Hunsrück.
